Description
A photograph of a segment of the Billboard Art created by Faith Ringgold as part of the New York City High Line Park art display for the spring of 2014. The artist is well known for her creative quilts and this billboard is a representation of her story guilt "Groovin High" created in 1986. Ringgold's art is boldly colored and often geometric, influenced by early American and European Modernism,Tibetan and African art as well as from a feminist and civil rights perspective. This particular piece of her colorful art depicts a crowded dance hall at the Savoy. The dance hall scene on the billboard was bordered by quilted hand-dyed fabrics. A fascinating piece of art and an artist that I intend to learn more about.
