Description
Nostalgia-Liberty State Park by Regina Geoghan. A vew of the New York skyline and Empire State Building in the background as seen through the light fixture of the old ferry slips at Liberty State Park in Jersey City New Jersey. The ferry slips were associated with the historic Central Railroad of NewJersey terminal - Central Railroad of New Jersey's Liberty Street Ferry Terminal. The main ferry from the terminal crossed the river to Liberty Street Ferry Terminal at Liberty and West Streets in Manhattan. Other service included trips to 23rd Street and the B&O's Royal Blue service which crossed to Whitehall/South Streets. Until the opening of the Verrazano Narrows Bridge there was also service to Brooklyn and Staten Island. According to Wikipedia, Railroad Magazine reported that the CRRNJ ferryboat fleet made 374 one-way crossings of the Hudson River (previously known as the North River) each day.
