Mandarin Duck Central Park-12 by Regina Geoghan. This handwome fellow is the star of New York City and Central Park during the holiday season. Although Mandarin ducks are not typical visitors to the USA, this drake has found his way to the waters of the park and made himself at home. Thiis amazingly colorful and beautiful duck is delighting birders, photographers, nature lovers and others with glimpses of it. It is not know where it came from or how it arrived at the park but there is speculation that it an escapee from, or let loose from, someone's private (illegal) collection.This image was voted first place honors in the Ducks, Geese and Swans Nature Photography contest FAA.
