Description
Catch Me if You Can by Regina Geoghan. An array of stuffed toys designed to catch attention and entice arcade visitors to grab one to take home, through the use of what is known as a 'claw' machine. The machines are also referred to as skill cranes, claw cranes, and crane games Claw machines are coin-operated glass and decorative cabinets with a joystick claw controller. The controller is manipulated to settle over and grab one of the 'prizes' in the cabinet. Supposedly the first claw machine, named the Erie Dipper, was patented in 1926, modeled after the machines that dug the Panama Canal. The next version, named Miami Digger, became even more popular carnival attractions across the U.S. in the 1930s and clearly the concept continues to be a popular attraction at fairs, boardwalks, and other venues offering game-type amusements to visitors.
