This collection features architecture, art and iconic places of the oceanside community of Asbury Park NJ. Developed in 1871 by James Bradley and named after Francis Asbury, the first American Episcopal Church bishop, the residential resort development included novel electric lighting, a boardwalk, orchestra pavilion, public changing rooms and a pier. Within years, a merry go-round and other boardwalk amusements followed along with hotels drawing tourists to the area. In the late 1920s, the Paramount Theatre and Convention Hall complex, the Casino Arena and more attractions followed.
